In addition to 60 miles of beaches, nearly 75 golf courses, and great entertainment and dining attractions, the Myrtle Beach area offers visitors the chance to make their vacation a grand slam by attending a Myrtle Beach Pelicans baseball game.
Visitors to Pelicans Ballpark can experience a fun, family-friendly atmosphere and various activities when they see the Pelicans, which are the single-A minor league affiliate of Major League Baseball’s Chicago Cubs. The team hosts various theme events for most games, including Budweiser Thirsty Thursday, Nickelodeon PAW Patrol Night, and Postgame Fireworks Extravaganza.
But most important is the game itself. Fans can see some quality baseball and watch the stars of tomorrow play today. Just a couple past Pelicans players who have gone on to the majors include pitcher Adam Wainwright and outfielder Freddie Freeman. Freeman won the National League Most Valuable Player Award with the Atlanta Braves in 2020.
The Myrtle Beach Pelicans franchise actually started out as the Durham Bulls before a new franchise started in Durham and adopted that team name. The franchise moved to Myrtle Beach in 1999.
Pelicans Ballpark visitors will experience much more than just a baseball game. Special events include Nickelodeon PAW Patrol Night, in which children and their parents can meet PAW Patrol characters Chase & Skye.
“Hit Like a Pelican” is another activity that occasionally takes place at the ballpark. Children ages 4 to 15 can participate in batting practice just like the pros. Pregame picnics and birthday parties are among the various additional events.
But those are just some of the special events that take place at Pelicans Ballpark during a Myrtle Beach Pelicans game. For example, the upcoming Friday, July 14, game against the Carolina Mudcats is Circus Night. In addition to possibly seeing a circus catch during the game, fans can wander the concourse and see many exciting actual circus acts. Also before the game, an autograph session will take place on the field for children 12 and under. After the game, children 12 and under are invited onto the field to run the bases.
Also, after every Friday home game, a Fireworks Extravaganza takes place, and fans can purchase a $25 meal deal.
But mainly, Pelicans fans come to see some great baseball. On June 12, fans saw a different type of fireworks as the Pelicans scored six runs in the top of the 9th inning on their way to an 8-3 victory over the Augusta GreenJackets.
Grande Cayman Resort is a great place to stay while getting ready to head to Pelicans Ballpark for the big game.
